Greg MacDonald Equipment Services Inc. (GMES) is located at 2755 Lasalle Blvd in Sudbury, Ontario (at end of Lasalle, past Falconbridge). Our facility is situated in one of Sudbury’s prime industrial areas, and we are in close proximity to the various mine sites of Glencore, Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations, and Vale Canada.
We are a full-service equipment rental house. With acres of yard space and approximately 18,000 square feet of in-house mechanical and welding facilities, we can stock and repair all sizes of equipment. We also offer equipment training on-site or at customer’s location. Whether you are looking for equipment, service, or education, we can help.
Greg MacDonald Equipment Services Inc. was formed in 1993 by Greg MacDonald, primarily to serve the needs of the local mines, Vale Canada (formerly Inco) and Glencore-Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations (formerly Xstrata Nickel). The Company was purchased in November 2007 by two of its senior employees, Robert Deforge and Andrew Balfe. After a successful seven year partnership, in October 2014, Andrew took over control of the Company as sole owner.
Our Mission is to be one of the leading locally owned Equipment Rental and Service provider companies in Sudbury, Ontario. Our goal is to offer consistent quality service that meets local market demand, while focusing on innovation and versatility in expanding our customer offerings. We believe our first responsibility is to serve the customers who use our services.
At GMES, we have been providing the Greater Sudbury area with industrial equipment rentals, sales, and service for over 25 years. Our Rental Equipment Fleet includes both mining and construction equipment rented by day, week, or month. Our Service Department offers both in-house and on-site maintenance and repair services, and tradesperson labour supply. Our Training Department offers a variety of equipment training in-house or on-site. We have both tilt-and-load and float trucks to offer transportation services.

Our President, Andrew Balfe, started with the Company in 2000 as a Heavy Duty Mechanic Apprentice. Andrew has obtained licenses in the Automotive, Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic, and Heavy Duty Technician programs at Cambrian College in Sudbury. Andrew has applied his exceptional mechanical skills to providing our customers with excellent equipment servicing. His strong leadership skills advanced his position to running the mechanical shop to Vice-President in 2007 when he and Robert Deforge purchased the company from Greg MacDonald. Robert has since retired in 2014, and Andrew’s vision for the future of the company continues to focus on customer satisfaction.
In the last several years, Andrew has been instrumental in solidifying the Company’s position in Sudbury as one of the leading heavy duty equipment in-house repair shops. Andrew also facilitates the outsourcing of tradespeople to various mine sites for repairing on-site equipment on surface and underground.

We have been ISO 9001 certified since 2001. We believe it offers a systematic control of our activities to ensure that the needs and expectations of our customers are met.
We provide a full-service CWB certified welding shop with SMAW and FCAW certified welders.
GMES has always had a strong commitment to safety. Our safety program is founded on the concept of “Safe Quality Service”, to allow our employees to do the right thing, the right way, and at the right time. Our employees are provided with WHMIS, ZES, Locking & Tagging, Fall Protection Awareness, Confined Space Awareness, Common Core, site specific orientations, NORCAT, OHSA regulations, specific equipment operation training, and other procedures, standards, and programs.
